Analog Devices and Tata Group in Discussions to Manufacture Semiconductors in India

The 156-year-old group's electronics manufacturing division, Tata Electronics, is establishing India's first semiconductor fabrication facility in the state of Gujarat with an investment of $14 billion, and a chip assembly and testing facility in the state of Assam.

As per the statement, ADI and Tata Electronics plan to investigate the possibility of producing ADI's products at the Assam facility and the Gujarati fab of Tata Electronics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite early disappointments, has been pushing India to compete with global semiconductor powerhouses like Taiwan, hoping to establish the nation as a chipmaker for the globe.

The western Indian state of Maharashtra announced earlier this month that $10 billion would be invested in a chip project by the Adani Group and Israel's Tower Semiconductor (TSEM.TA). The semiconductor division of infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro (LART.NS), which creates semiconductors for automobiles, also intends to eventually construct a facility.

According to the agreements, Tejas Networks (TEJS.NS) and Tata Motors (TAMO.NS) will both employ ADI's chips in their telecom infrastructure and electric car manufacturing, respectively.

The firms did not say which goods Tata will employ or which ones would be manufactured in India.

International businesses have declared intentions to invest and open facilities in the nation, including NXP Semiconductors and Micron (MU.O).
