| |December 20186CIOReviewEditorialBusinesses today are reevaluating their product development to explore which elements of the process are being digitally impacted. Product lifecycle management (PLM) technology is pivotal to applying digital to product innovation and evolution. According to a survey of 1,200 C-level executives by Fujitsu, 52 percent of respondents believe their business will not exist in its current form in the next five years, and 98 percent agree that digital has disrupted their organization. At the same time, a number of trends and technologies are affecting the future of product lifecycles: Big Data, mobility, Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0 and the explosive growth of automation and manufacturing software. Hence, there is a strong necessity to close the loop between R&D, simulation and test, and manufacturing in an integrated digital enterprise. PLM has become one of the key technological and organizational approaches and enablers for the effective management of product development and product creation processes. While technology companies are coming up with innovative tools and enablers to facilitate a transformation, the onus is on the manufacturers to ensure that the in-house processes are flexible and scalable to adapt to these changes. Although it may take a while before PLM package vendors begin embracing new architectures on which to build or extend their platforms, leading manufacturing organizations are exploring alternative approaches to address their new demands. One such approach is to build a microservices architecture that could manage complementary services separately. Another promising advancement is blockchain's capability of enhancing product data management for PLM. In this issue, CIOReview India has come up with a list of 10 Most Promising PLM Solution Providers who have proved their mettle in this domain with their innovative approach. These companies pride themselves on keeping pace with the latest technological advancements in this domain. We hope this issue gives you helpful insight into this market landscape.
