Artistic examples could be found in the avant-garde work of French playwright Antonin Artaud who considered illusion and reality to be one and the same. He argued that a theatre audience should suspend their disbelief and consider the performance to be reality. Back then, one might exhibit a skeptical expression towards its execution, but now the concept is more than just a `concept'. It's here. There is a whole spectrum of immersive technologies out there and whether you choose to call that spectrum Mixed Reality or XR (which in turn can stand either for Cross Reality or Extended Reality, depending on who you ask) it encompasses a variety of ways in which we can blend the physical and digital worlds. Or as HoloLens inventor Alex Kipman puts it the world of atoms and the world of bits. Despite the slow adoption of augmented- and virtual-reality technologies, the nascent Indian AR/VR market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 76 per cent over the next fi ve years, fuelled by demand from business and consumer sectors. The past few years has witnessed the emergence of 170 AR/VR start-ups in the country, 60 per cent of which set up shop in the past 24 months. Not surprisingly, Bengaluru takes the lead, attracting 27 per cent of these start-ups, followed by Delhi at 25 per cent and Mumbai at 13 per cent, according to a Market Pulse Report on AR and VR, by GrowthEnabler, a data and intelligence fi rm on disruptive technology/digital start-ups.In this edition of CIOReview India, for the fi rst time ever, we are throwing the spot light on few the top 20 most promising AR/VR technology solution providers. These inventors have stood the test of time and emerged victor. Rest assured, your business can take a launch to a whole new immersive level and tell success stories that are as thrilling and surreal as the technology itself. Take a look and let us know what you think.Emmanuel Christi DasAsst. Managing Editoremmanuel@cioreviewindia.com.Indeed- the world of atoms and the world of bits! PublisherEditorAsst.
