| |September 202095 TRENDS TRANSFORMING CLOUD COMPUTINGSome of the top trends in cloud computing are:Hybrid Cloud:A hybrid cloud computing setup typically leverages the existing in-frastructure [on-premises], private cloud, and one or many third-party public cloud services to derive the right benefits. This trend is on the increasing side and will help the or-ganizations not only to optimize the TCO but also in leveraging the ser-vices in public cloud to provide su-perior end user experience.Serverless Computing:It's estimated, according to Gartner, that more than 20% of global or-ganizations will aim to deploy serverless technologies in 2020 and beyond. This mode of operation will fundamentally change not just the economics of what is back-end com-puting, but will become the core of the future of distributed computing itself.Microservices and container or-chestration technologies, such as Docker Swarm, Mesosphere and Kubernetes support container dis-tribution management. These tech-nologies are highly suitable for man-aging large-scale applications which are microservices based as they en-able container creation as well as management of numerous contain-ers.Because of these specific advan-tages listed above, many organiza-tions are focused towards adopting microservices as an alternative to the complex monolithic application ar-chitecture.Quantum Computing:With the increasing and globally dis-tributed user-base, complex applica-tion architecture, the requirements for high-end computing infrastruc-ture is highly required to provide rich end user experience. This calls for increased usage of computing power and in turn, more energy. Quantum computing has the poten-tial to limit energy consumption and will have a positive effect not only on the environment but also on the economy.AI-ML:Every organization tries to leverage data to the maximum extent to de-rive more insights and in that pro-cess they continue to generate more data. It's infeasible to have the right products and solutions on-premise and the cloud computing services are the right way to get the desired out-come at the right speed and at the lowest cost using the AI/ML tech-nologies.Some of the emerging AI tech-nologies include "Explainable AI" and "Conversational AI". Explain-able AI is necessary if the compa-nies need proper accountability during the various stages of the ML processes. Conversational AI has a larger scope for the organizations to build potential applications which can be consumed at large, such as by Amazon Echo and Google Home.Disaster Recovery / Security / Com-pliance:One common area of concern for any organization in using cloud computing is on the security front. However, as all companies are try-ing to become cloud-native or digi-tal, the utmost important aspect to be considered is on the DR setup and in complying with the various regulations that may be applicable viz., GDPR, HIPAA etc., Further, even the slightest downtime means loss of revenue, loss of customers and damage to the brand reputa-tion. The public cloud offers multi-ple solutions in meeting all of these requirements and using the same could be the right approach for the organizations.
