Despite these figures, more than 70 per cent of India is either un-der educated or uneducated or lowly skilled, and the "Right to Education Act" has been largely ineffective in improving the condition. But the good news is that roughly half the population is be-low the age of 25 and comprises heavy users of the Internet and mobiles (according to a recent survey, India is estimated to have over 800 million mobile phone users in 2019). Recently, the Ministry of Hu-man Resource Department (MHRD) made an effort to provide solutions and training to higher education institutions by exploring the possibility of partnering with edtech startups. This clearly augurs well for the growth of the online education market in India.Edtech is the coming of age in education of technology and paves the way for talent that is industry ready, tech savvyand has the right knowledge, skills and values to live and work in a global economy. Edtech helps in retaining current professionals by helping them upgrade competencies and skills through training. It facilitates building on vocational skills by linking them to professional aspirations.
