Managing EditorAlok ChaturvediSudhakar SinghEmmanuel Christi DasThere is an upsurge in the demand for the growth of data - the important data. Companies' policies used to be, `Let's get the data off of our storage as quickly as possible.' Now the very same companies are saying, `We're going to keep that data on our storage as long as possible.' Software-defined storage (SDS) has quickly achieved adoption in the IT infrastructure of the modern data center due to its versatility in delivering faster and more flex-ible storage provisioning while lowering costs by leveraging off-the-shelf hardware and providing automated and opti-mized storage management capabilities. According to International Data Corporation, the SDS market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 13.5 percent from 2017 to 2021, and it will increase in prominence in 2018 as data growth continues to explode, the complexity and cost to store and manage data increases, and the need for regulatory compliance is more highly prioritized. As the love for data grows, ideas light up as to how to accom-modate the vast unending production of data. IT department managers will increasingly look for functional consolidation within single solutions to eliminate extra licensing costs as well as complex, time consuming and error-prone integra-tions. Clearly, technology has a way of solving the problems that technology creates, and new approaches to storage are emerging to attack the deluge of data pouring from Internet-connected devices and systems. We are seeing a major shift in how today's enterprise storage is being developed. The em-phasis now is on data management at today's scale intel-ligent, software-based systems that provide scalable, fast and reliable data storage systems and enable organizations to focus on extracting value from data rather than managing storage. In this edition of CIO Review India, we have put together a list of top 20 most promising enterprise storage solution providers. We hope these technology savvy entrants in the industry can actually see through your data pain points and deliver your business from the captivities of storage wars.Do let us know what you think.
