| | June 20184CIOReviewEditorialWith the advent of disruptive technologies, maritime industry is witnessing a rapid automation and digitalization of processes that is transforming its daily operations. Automation systems are becoming more intelligent, taking machine learning into different directions and applications that seek to enable autonomous surface vessels to navigate without human interaction. Internet of things (IoT) is making inroads into shipping with liner operators particularly interested in using this technology for container tracking and reefer monitoring. It is increasingly being used for monitoring onboard machinery for performance management and predictive maintenance purposes. Continued development of IoT technology using deep learning computers and high-volume data analytics on shore is expected to deliver greater benefits for ship owners. Sensor technologies that play a major role in IoT deployments are well developed and are becoming increasingly intelligent. They are finding their application in many forms of autonomous operations. Sensors are transforming shipping by providing a communication platform not only between different equipments but also between the ship and the human. They are becoming more closely integrated, giving them another level of intelligence. In addition, by connecting artificial intelligence and machine-learning to sensors, businesses are able to extract more insight into how a ship can operate most efficiently. Looking to leverage these technologies to take their business on the growth path, industrial and marine businesses are looking for products that are customized for their specific businesses and needs. A product should be specialized and optimized in itself, as well as be adapted to the context in which it operates. Digitalization and connection of the products enables them to interact with each other, which often results in a more optimized and effective use and workflow. In this issue, CIOReview India presents to you `10 Most Promising Marine and Ports Technology Solution Providers' who have proved their mettle with their innovative offerings.
