Driven by population growth and hyper-urbanization, the railway technology is evolving fast to meet the rising demand. Acknowledging this change, we have focused on this segment in this special issue. The cover story of this issue features Alstom which has introduced several ground-breaking technologies in India and is continuing to modernize the urban and mainline railway sector. As part of the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) project in the Indian Railway sector, Alstom is indigenously manufacturing 800 fully electric super powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 HP capable of hauling approximately 6000 tonnes at an approved speed of 120 KMPH. Till date, 220 of these electric locomotives have been delivered. With this joint venture project underway, India has become the sixth country in the world to join the club of countries producing high horsepower locomotives indigenously. Also featuring in this issue is Saraca Solutions whose strength is in the core engineering aspect of rolling stock and signaling. Emerging technologies like DevOps, Native Cloud, and Microsoft technologies are helping the organization serve OEMs better and contribute to India's plan of modern rail infrastructure development.
