ACWA Power, a Saudi firm involved in developing, investing, and operating power generation, water desalination, and green hydrogen plants, has agreed with Hysata, an Australian electrolyzer company, to deliver commercial-scale demonstrations of Hysata’s electrolysis technology in Saudi Arabia.

The demonstration is stated to be the initial move in Hysata's commercial journey to implement large-scale electrolyzer systems in ACWA Power's projects.

Hysata states that the agreement will speed up the development of its electrolyzers and utilize ACWA Power's expertise in major capital projects, including the 2.2-gigawatt NEOM green hydrogen project initiative in Saudi Arabia. NEOM is said to be more than 60% finished and is anticipated to generate 600 tonnes of hydrogen each day when fully operational in 2026.

This agreement was finalized at ACWA Power’s Innovation Days event in Riyadh in February 2025. At that time, the Saudi firm revealed multiple partnership agreements, featuring state-owned Saudi Aramco, UK-based Bluewater Bio, international chemicals manufacturer Dow, and German Fraunhofer IMWS, Fraunhofer ISC, and Fraunhofer IWES. Moreover, it prolonged its primary research agreement with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

ACWA Power has signed a framework agreement with Fraunhofer IMWS, Fraunhofer ISC, and Fraunhofer IWES, initiating a strategic partnership focused on renewable energy and green hydrogen research and development. As mentioned, the collaboration will concentrate on promoting innovative solutions in the clean energy field, utilizing Fraunhofer’s proficiency in materials, energy systems, and hydrogen technologies.
