The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) could transform 38 million jobs by 2030, resulting in a 2.61 percent productivity increase in the Indian economy from advancements in the organized sector, with the possibility of an extra 2.82 percent from Gen AI adoption by the unorganized sector, according to a report.

As per the EY India report, ‘What level of productivity can GenAI unleash in India? The concept of 'AIdea of India: 2025' suggests that generative AI (GenAI) will reshape the workforce and change the nation’s economic scene by 2030.

The report indicates that 24 percent of tasks in various industries could be fully automated, whereas an additional 42 percent can be improved with AI technology, allowing knowledge workers to save between 8-10 hours each week. At an industry level, the most significant productivity improvements are anticipated in the services sector because of its greater labor share relative to gross output, whereas manufacturing and construction will experience a lesser effect.

EY's examination of more than 10,000 tasks across different industries reveals diverse productivity improvements among sectors. Among the business processes expected to experience the greatest effect is call centre management, anticipated to achieve an 80 per cent increase in productivity, alongside software development, which could see a 61 per cent rise in productivity.
