AI and Machine learning models have shown numerous ways in which it mirrors and even magnifies systemic biases, resulting in various ethical problems in this digitalization wave.
According to a credible report of the State of Data Science where 1,592 people were surveyed globally, 27 percent identified social impacts from bias in data and models as the biggest challenge that has been laid forth to tackle when it concerns AI and machine learning today.
However, with so much hype on the statement - Artificial intelligence today has an ethics problem - the issue has little to no institutional progress.
Hence to help in overcoming these issues, Generation Z is graduating into the workforce. This means that the most diverse and most educated generation is stepping into the workforce across businesses who are uniquely positioned to act as change agents in the space of AI.
Hence, the leaders and other executives must develop portfolios and build new initiatives to enable Gen Z to better align with the growing interest in AI with their hunger for ethical work.
Gutierrez once stated, “Young people like to make things quick, easy and simple. I think the stigma against young people is that we like to do things quickly and maybe we’re lazy because we want to do things that will take less time. But I think if you look at it from a more productive side, at the same time we’re able to make hard things easier and quicker. So I think how we’re going to progress in the future and with the next generation down is something that will be really incredible.”
Gen Z are especially suited in tackling the challenges of AI. Hence, rather having a negative impact by limiting their capabilities, leaders and forward thinkers should rather provide the needed tools and opportunities to help them stride further.
Furthermore, one should always understand AI & ML driven systems are not always flawless. So expecting a perfect answer should always be reconsidered so as to deconstruct ethical problems related to the technology.
AI is also referred to as the electricity of the twenty-first century which holds tremendous benefits for the human kind. However, one should understand both side of the coins so as to reap the benefits out of this technology.
