Porsche, a prominent German automaker known for its high-performance sports cars and SUVs, revealed last week that it would be working with Austrian shipbuilder Frauscher to create an electric speedboat.

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air Speedboat is a joint project between the two businesses with a 2024 delivery target.

The day cruiser, which is over 8.7 metres long, is based on Frauscher's current 858 Fantom Air and is driven by Porsche's Premium Platform Electric, which will serve as the foundation for new electric cars like the Macan, according to sources.

Studio F.A. Porsche will design the helm-stand as well as the seats and upholstery for the interior. The day cruiser will be constructed in Austria's Ohlsdorf at Frauscher Shipyard.

The cruiser has a swimming platform, sun lounge space, two bimini tops for shade, a refrigerator, a top-of-the-line music system, and Porsche-designed seats and upholstery, according to the Stuttgart-based automaker.

Porsche declined, however, to provide performance details like as the cruising range and charging time. However, Porsche is promising a boat that will be powered by electric technology intended for motor vehicles. The Porsche Fantom Air will use the same electric platform as the Macan EV, which is scheduled to hit dealerships in 2024. This platform, which Porsche refers to as its Premium Platform Electric (PPE), includes a lithium-ion battery with a capacity totaling about 100 kilowatt-hours, an electric motor, and other related power electronics linked to 800-volt technology.

The electric speedboat will probably cost roughly €600,000 ($655,000), according to a Volkswagen subsidiary. The cruiser's base model, the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air, according to the automaker, starts at $250,000 new and goes for about $300,000 used.
