Bosch and Tenstorrent to Partner on standardising automotive chips

Tenstorrent executives announced that Bosch, a German industrial giant, will work together with U.S. chip startup Tenstorrent to create a platform for standardizing the foundational components of automotive chips.

The strategy involves creating a uniform approach to utilize chiplets, a fundamental component of contemporary chips, in order to design systems capable of supporting vehicles with varying requirements, explained David Bennett, chief customer officer at Tenstorrent, during an interview.

The two companies plan to lower expenses and accelerate the launch of new silicon products in the automotive sector by integrating various chiplets in varying amounts and variations to create full processors.

"(Bosch is) collaborating with us to essentially redefine how automakers look at silicon - purchasing silicon and building silicon," Bennett said.

With the advent of electric vehicles, cars are evolving into complex systems similar to computers that run on wheels. The increased complexity of implementing electrification and automated driving technology has prompted automotive manufacturers to explore alternative methods for acquiring the required chips.

Big companies like Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Intel's Mobileye branch create various driver assistance chips and related software. Bennett stated that by standardizing the technical requirements for chiplet building blocks through collaboration with Bosch, the goal is to reduce prices.
