Ericsson, a telecom equipment provider from Sweden, announced that it has acquired an additional four telecom circles from Vodafone Idea to implement 4G and 5G technology. In the previous month, Vodafone Idea (VIL), which was struggling with debt, gave a Rs 30,000 crore telecom network contract to Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung for three years.

"Ericsson will upgrade 4G and deploy 5G across the Indian telecom circles it already powers for Vi. In addition, Ericsson will provide 4G and 5G services in the telecom circles of Delhi, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, thereby increasing its footprint and market share with Vi substantially," a company statement said.

In the agreement, VIL swapped out its Chinese supplier in Chennai and Andhra Pradesh with Nokia. Nokia is now VIL's main supplier in circles that contribute over half of the telco's revenue.
