The famous carmaker in the United States – General Motors, is exploiting new areas in the aerial taxi market, which includes building vehicles or flying cars, as a segment of push to look for growth in related transportation markets, said by people in the manufacturing process.
The Chief Executive, Mary Barra, in a brief release, referred to Detroit-based GM’s interest in the air taxi market for the first time, which aligns with the development of electric vehicles (EVs) and its Ultium advanced electric battery.
Mary Barra said, “We believe strongly in our EV future and not just for vehicles. The strength and flexibility of our Ultium battery system open doors for many uses, including aerial mobility."
Stuart Fowle, the GM spokesman, said, “It's an area we're really excited about and looking at."
pitchbook.com says, “With a minimum $2.3 billion corporate and private investment in 100+ aerial vehicle startups, which includes drones and electric air taxis, the technology is still facing roadblocks in commercializing and earning profits.”
Exploring all options to take a decision on whether to join automakers like Hyundai Motor Co, Toyota Motor Corp, Daimler AG, Volkswagen AG, and Geely Automobile, GM, in the early stage market, is supposed to make an announcement at the beginning of the coming year.
An aerial mobility market study by GM, considered to be a part of GM in innovation group for exploring other transportation markets for growth, the group is headed by Alan Wexler, who reports to Barra, is the Senior Vice President, now looking in innovation and growth with market study stats.
