As per senior executive at HFCL, the telecom equipment provider will collaborate with private telcos and the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to deploy its 5G private network solutions over the next year. The telecom-tech firm has begun presenting proof of concepts for the deployment of multiple private 5G use cases in manufacturing, warehousing, mining, and healthcare.

"Our preferred option is to partner with the telcos to build the solutions for our enterprise customers. A couple of reasons for this-telcos already have the spectrum available with them, and they come with expertise in network planning," Jayanta Dey, executive president-5G at HFCL.

Furthermore, partnering with telcos ensures that public and private 5G networks interoperate seamlessly and that there is no interference between them from a network planning standpoint, he said.

Last year, the government issued guidelines for setting up a private captive network for businesses. Enterprises can now obtain spectrum in three ways: by asking telcos to set up a captive network, leasing spectrum from a telco or directly obtaining airwaves from the government, and setting it up themselves with the help of system integrators, which are typically software companies.
