One of the finest and leading technology and business incubators in India, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP), working under the aegis of IIM Calcutta, signed an MoU with the West Bengal State Council of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology, and Biotechnology (WB-SCST). This MoU will promote entrepreneurship in the fields of Science and Technology in the state of West Bengal.
At the signing event, Shri Bratya Basu, Minister of Science and Technology and Biotechnology Department, Govt of West Bengal and Dr Subhrangshu Sanyal, CEO, IIMCIP, and Prof Anju Seth, Director of IIM Calcutta were present.
The MoU stated that it consists of a series of programs and activities for helping in the identification and nurturing S&T entrepreneurial talent of West Bengal. IIMCIP will be known as the ‘Knowledge Partner’ in the West Bengal’s S&T driven Entrepreneurship Development efforts, which will support the various activities for encouraging, training, recognizing, rewarding, and nurturing the budding entrepreneurs of West Bengal. It will undertake the capacity of building among relevant Government Officials, Trainers, Entrepreneurs, and related personnel, slowly helping in the development of an entrepreneurial culture in the state of West Bengal. In the beginning, the focus will be laid on the structure and implementation initiatives like West Bengal S&T Entrepreneurship Hunt, Pre-Incubation for aspiring and S&T entrepreneurs, Incubation, and commercialization of S&T entrepreneurs.
Delivering thoughts at the auspicious event, Prof Anju Seth, Director, IIM Calcutta, said, “We are delighted to collaborate with the state with this new MOU to ignite and nurture entrepreneurship that leverages science and technology for the continued growth and progress of West Bengal. The inspiration and assistance envisaged under this program will not only energize our talented youth to spur scientific advancements for entrepreneurial solutions to social challenges but also assist to scale these solutions and build capacities to reach a larger part of the population for the success of their business ventures. IIM Calcutta and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park are happy to traverse the Bengal entrepreneurial journey hand-in-hand with the Government of West Bengal in now extending our legacy partnership with the Department of Micro Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles (MSME&T) that launched ‘Shilpa Abhijan’- a movement to foster district level entrepreneurship in West Bengal.”
Dr Subhrangshu Sanyal, CEO, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, said, “IIM Calcutta Innovation Park and the West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology have worked together as a team and conceptualized this ambitious initiative that has the potential to create large scale socio-economic impact in the state, leveraging entrepreneurship and innovation. The program aims at commercialization of science and technology innovation by creating awareness and providing necessary handholding support to the innovators.”
Working extensively for the development of an entrepreneurial structure in the Eastern and North-Eastern States of India, IIMCIP has developed Social Entrepreneurship in India. IIMCIP has come into collaboration with the state governments of West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, and reputed Corporate Organization such as the Tata Group for fostering Entrepreneurship and Innovation development.
