India has the potential to dominate the global 5G M2M market soon, with 22 car manufacturers making almost 5 million passenger vehicles every year. It was reported that MG Motors is considered the top provider of connected cars in India by 21% of participants, with Kia Motors following closely at 18% and Tata Motors at 15%.
According to Techarc's India Connected Consumer Report 2025, India will soon be embracing a revolutionary era of smartphones for cars in 2025, incorporating 5G M2M connectivity and cutting-edge AI technologies in vehicles. The report indicated that the automotive industry will not adopt 4G and will instead implement connectivity through the newest 5G cellular technology.
Consumers prefer investing in enhancing the value proposition through features, quality, and experience over purchasing numerous smart devices.
"22 per cent of the respondents shared about considering optimising their smart devices portfolio. Among the new set of categories, smart/connected cars is generating high interest among consumers. 55 per cent of the respondents said that they have come across news or information about smart/connected cars in recent times," it said.
It was stated that from 2025 onwards, passenger vehicles in India will come with 5G M2M connectivity, on-device Gen AI technology, and cloud connectivity, making advanced technologies available in different price ranges.
In-car computing and artificial intelligence, known as GenAI, combined with cloud-based applications, will be necessary parts of vehicles, allowing for instant data processing to assist drivers efficiently.
