With its '61 data top-up scheme, which offers 6 GB of data, Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom division of Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, has become the first telco to establish a 5G-specific package.
With this, Jio has opened up its 5G welcome offer to all customers across the 85 cities that it has launched 5G services so far, with the addition of 10 new cities in its coverage. These include - Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, (Uttar Pradesh), Tirupati, Nellore (Andhra Pradesh), Kozhikode, Thrissur (Kerala), Nagpur, Ahmednagar (Maharashtra).
Up until recently, only customers with base packs of $239 or above and a 5G-capable handset were qualified for the welcome promotion.
As per the release, Jio Andhra Pradesh CEO Mandapalli Mahesh Kumar said, “We are happy to expand our 5G network in Andhra Pradesh. By the end of this year, we will expand our 5G services to every town, mandal and village across the State.”
Regarding the introduction of a comprehensive 5G-specific plan, Reliance Jio's 5G plan reportedly made history by becoming the first to do so in India and featuring a '61 data top-up system' that gives subscribers 6 GB of data.
According to a source in the Economic Times, up until this point, the welcome offer for Jio 5G was only available to customers who had base packs of "239 and above with a 5G-enabled handset." But now that the company is the only telecom to provide a 5G-specific plan, its customers are more receptive to new deals.
The 5G service rollout in India has been one of the top news stories of 2022. The largest telecom companies in the nation, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and others, are all contributing to this achievement, therefore India is soon anticipated to have a fully functional 5G network.
