Lenovo, a multinational company, has launched a new laptop under the Mobile World Congress concept. It gives the flexibility to work outside without being reliant on power cables. The Yoga Solar PC showcases an initial proof of concept device that has a solar panel integrated into the laptop's lid.
It can use light from any source to boost its battery. The device will work efficiently outside sunny places, but the company has not decided to put the Yoga Solar PC into production. The product will debut as a new concept in 2023, featuring an expanding and rotating OLED display for $3499.
The Yoga Solar PC represents an initial proof-of-concept device, incorporating a solar panel seamlessly integrated into the lid of the laptop. It is designed to absorb the panel, which consists of 84 solar cells. The panel mounting brackets and electrical connections responsible for gathering and transmitting the generated energy are behind the solar cells.
The panel's front design enhances light capture, enabling Lenovo to reach a conversion efficiency exceeding 24%. According to Lenovo, even at a 24% efficiency rate, the Yoga Solar computer's panel "can harness and convert sufficient solar energy from direct sunlight in just 20 minutes to facilitate up to an hour of video playback."
The Yoga Solar is 15 millimeters thick and equipped with an Intel Lunar Lake processor, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. Lenovo created this concept as an alternative energy source.
