Larsen & Toubro Technology Services (LTTS) announced a cooperation with NVIDIA to build advanced software for endoscopy-focused medical equipment, which would improve picture quality and scalability.

This comes as an answer to the industry-wide challenges of availability, cost, and dependencies linked to custom and proprietary hardware components, said the company. The architecture is a scalable platform that supports multiple applications, providing a real-time decision-making tool for the medical fraternity, it said, as per business standard.

The architecture was built from the ground up and includes an image processing pipeline for noise reduction, edge and contrast improvement, texture and color enhancement, and speckle correction. According to the business, what distinguishes it is the incorporation of AI/ML models built for the detection, identification, and categorization of polyps - abnormal growths commonly discovered during colonoscopies.

The system is particularly notable for its easy-to-use interface and seamless integration of the image processing pipeline for visualization. It also offers low-latency data transport, improved picture processing without bottlenecks, and scalability.

The partnership makes use of the NVIDIA Holoscan and NVIDIA IGX Orin platforms, which have ultra-low data transmission latency, better image processing, and scalability to support a variety of AI-enabled applications. This contributes to improved image processing and AI-based decision-making assistance, such as polyp identification and categorization.

"The combination of LTTS' expertise in medical-device development and NVIDIA's full-stack edge AI computing platform delivers unprecedented value to the medical technology industry by accelerating the development of AI-enabled, software-defined medical devices," Shanker Trivedi, senior vice president of Enterprise Business, NVIDIA.

"This collaboration provides a complete solution for customers looking to transition to a software-defined business model via real-time AI applications," he added.
