The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) received a 48% increase in its budget to exceed Rs 26,000 crore, with a significant portion designated for the IndiaAI Mission and enhanced production-linked incentive (PLI) programs for semiconductors, large-scale electronics, and IT hardware.
The projection for the “revised plan for establishing compound semiconductors/silicon photonics/sensors fabrication/discrete semiconductors fabrication and semiconductor assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP)/outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facilities in India” was raised from Rs 2,500 crore in the updated estimate for FY25 to Rs 3,900 crore in FY26.
The central government raised the projection for the “revised plan for establishing semiconductor fabs in India” from Rs 1,200 crore in the amended estimate for FY25 to Rs 2,499.96 crore in FY26.
MeitY designated Rs 2,000 crore for the IndiaAI Mission for FY25, increasing nearly 11 times from the revised budget estimate of Rs 173 crore for FY25. In the July budget for FY25, the IndiaAI Mission received an allocation of Rs 551.75 crore, which is 68.65% higher than the revised estimate for FY25.
In March of the previous year, the Centre sanctioned Rs 10,371.92 crore for the IndiaAI Mission, with 44%, or Rs 4,563.36 crore, designated for delivering computing power exceeding 10,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) across five years.
