Microsoft has added a transcription feature which would be available on Microsoft Word on the web. The company said in a statement that by uploading an audio, or even by transcribing ongoing calls, the feature would allow users to transcribe previous recordings as well.
This feature will help users to automatically do the transcription by directly recording their conversations on the Microsoft Word and the Web. And to enable this feature, Microsoft said that they are leveraging Azure Cognitive Services AI platform.
Not only would this feature be capable of recognising different speakers but on the addition, it would also provide recorded audio with particular time-stamps, thus enabling users to playback directly to that time. While, if one feels that some words have not been transcribed properly, there is a feature which can help the user to edit as well.
While talking about this new transcription feature, the audio transcription will appear on the side panel of the Word document, hence making it very easy to insert quotes from the transcription.
Moreover, by clicking on the little plus icon next to each quote, the user is given the option to add the transcription of the entire audio or he/she can also add selected quotes; giving an easier way to create a document using the transcript.
This feature has been made available in the Microsoft 360 suite and will work on the Microsoft Edge and Chrome as well. While, this feature would be especially targeted towards researchers, journalists, and entrepreneurs.
Currently, this transcription feature only supports english, but the company is further planning to add other languages as well in near future. This feature would help Microsoft compete fiercely with the Google Docs in the field of online word processing.
