In Phoenix, Waymo and Uber Technologies Inc. will begin a new, multi-year strategic agreement to expand the availability of the Waymo Driver through the Uber platform.

Since their founding in 2009, Waymo and Uber have each revolutionised the way people may access transportation in unique ways. Now, we're working together to combine the enormous size of Uber's ridesharing and delivery networks with the industry-leading autonomous driving technology from Waymo.

Local deliveries and ride-hailing trips will be included in this integration, which will go live publicly later this year with a predetermined number of Waymo vehicles throughout Waymo's recently extended operating zone in Phoenix. On both the Uber and Uber Eats apps, Uber riders will be able to enjoy the security and fun of the Waymo Driver. The Waymo One app will continue to allow users to hail a Waymo vehicle directly. The Phoenix operations of Waymo presently have the largest fully autonomous service area in the world at over 180 square miles.

“We’re excited to offer another way for people to experience the enjoyable and life-saving benefits of full autonomy,” said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo. “Uber has long been a leader in human-operated ridesharing, and the pairing of our pioneering technology and all-electric fleet with their customer network provides Waymo with an opportunity to reach even more people.”

“Uber provides access to a global and reliable marketplace across mobility, delivery, and freight,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “Fully autonomous driving is quickly becoming part of everyday life, and we’re excited to bring Waymo's incredible technology to the Uber platform.”

To deliver a safe, pleasurable, totally electric, and fully autonomous experience, Waymo and Uber are working together.
