As per Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Indian government has approved 27 companies, including Dell, Foxconn, HP, and Lenovo, under the new IT hardware policy.

Earlier in November,  government aims to have around 30 applicants to qualify for Rs 17,000-crore production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware, as per economic times.

"I am happy to announce that 27 companies have been approved under the PLI IT hardware scheme. About 95 per cent of these...23 companies are ready to start manufacturing from day-zero," said Minister for Electronics and IT, Vaishnaw .

"This will set us up for being a big force in manufacturing of PCs, servers, laptops, and tablets," he added.

These 27 firms would put in Rs 3,000 crore. Furthermore, the expected value of IT gear manufacturing is $42 billion. As many as 40 businesses, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo, filed for the IT hardware PLI plan, pledging to manufacture personal computers, laptops, tablets, servers, and other equipment worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore throughout the scheme's duration.

The applicants estimated rewards of Rs 22,890 crore versus the scheme's financial allocation of Rs 17,000 crore. The plan is projected to employ around 200,000 people. Around 50,000 professionals would be directly hired, while another 1.5 lakh will be indirectly employed.

While additional information is required, it has been learned that other major firms such as HPE, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, and Thomson are participating through Electronic production Service (EMS) businesses with production facilities in India such as Flextronics and Rising Star.
