A three-year strategic cooperation agreement has been extended between Mila, Quebec's Artificial Intelligence Institute, and FPT, the leading IT service provider in Vietnam.
As part of this ongoing commitment, FPT and Mila will investigate working together on research projects involving large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP), all the while supporting responsible AI, an approach to using artificial intelligence with the intention of empowering individuals and groups.
Both parties will contribute to the creation of principles, ethical standards, and best practises that will support accountability, transparency, and privacy in AI applications. The ongoing alliance aims to address complicated issues and establish an AI ecosystem that promotes social, economic, and human advancement.
At the Canada-Vietnam AI Summit, which honoured the 50th anniversary of the two nations' bilateral ties, the collaboration extension was unveiled. Participants at the conference, including representatives of the Canadian and Vietnamese governments, scientists, and executives from Mila, FPT, and FPT's North American partners, presented an overview of an AI-enabled future and attempts to make technology helpful and safe for human life.
FPT Chairman Dr. Truong Gia Binh said: “As a global IT company, FPT aspires to harness Artificial Intelligence's power for a safer, better, and happier world."
Since the partnership's inception in June 2020, FPT and Mila have worked together on numerous research projects related to causality, language models, speech coding, and other topics.
"The Mila community has benefited greatly from our relationship with FPT over the past three years, which has resulted in the realization of many projects," said Yoshua Bengio, Mila’s Founder and Scientific Director. "We are delighted to continue our collaboration with FPT, one of our major partners in Asia, which is a great example of Mila's international impact."
