HCLTech announced that it has secured a contract from Victoria's Department of Transport and Planning to automate the concession entitlement process for
public transportation passengers. The financials transactions were not disclosed.
More than 605 million trips are taken on Victoria’s public transport network annually and 35% of these are taken by concession card holders, including students, retirees, veterans, and those with disabilities, as per economic times.
HCLTech will create and support a Concessions Entitlement Validation Platform (CEVP) for the department, which will provide instant verification of concession entitlement as well as a passenger interface for applying for and managing concession entitlement. According to HCLTech, this will improve the experiences of both passengers and department staff.
The CEVP's ability to link credit cards with concession cards will be a first in the country. This feature will allow concession card holders to pay in a variety of ways.
“Over one in three Victorians travel on a concession card and some of them are among the most vulnerable in the community. HCLTech knows that it is important to get this right, using technology to support this cohort while also unlocking business value,” said Michael Horton, executive vice president and country manager, Australia and New Zealand, HCLTech.
