Nvidia Corp and MediaTek Inc announced a technical collaboration to power enhanced vehicle infotainment systems that can stream movies or games or interact with drivers using artificial intelligence.

MediaTek will embed an Nvidia graphic processing unit chiplet and Nvidia software into the system-on-chips it offers to automakers for infotainment screens under the terms of the deal, which was unveiled at the Computex technology trade event in Taipei.

According to the firms, MediaTek systems that use Nvidia software will be interoperable with Nvidia-based automated driving systems. Dashboard screens may reveal the surrounding surroundings, while cameras would watch the driver.

As automakers add technologies like as gaming, artificial intelligence for voice-activated features, driver monitoring systems, and displays connected to automated driving, in-vehicle displays and entertainment systems become more complicated.

Qualcomm, MediaTek's main smartphone competitor, has also been courting automakers. Qualcomm and SalesForce announced a collaboration earlier this year to create a new connected vehicle platform.

According to the firms, the agreement with MediaTek gives Nvidia more access to the $12 billion market for infotainment system-on-chips.

Nvidia has centred its efforts on high-end automakers like Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover. With its roots in the Android smartphone chip industry, MediaTek sells its Dimensity Auto technology to mass market, lower cost car lines and excels at Android and mobile connectivity.

"There are a lot of segments they are addressing that Nvidia has not addressed," said Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's vice president, automotive.

Future automotive clients were not identified by the corporations.
