64% of Indian Businesses Harness AI for Sustainability Efforts

A majority of business executives are utilizing AI technology, with 64% of companies in India implementing AI in their sustainability initiatives. Approximately 98% of Indian business leaders polled in IBM's inaugural state of sustainability readiness report intend to boost their investments in IT for sustainability in the coming year. The majority of Indian participants believe that investing in IT is crucial for both environmental responsibility and for enhancing long-term business resilience (61%) and brand reputation (64%), as highlighted by the research.

The report also points out water usage as a key challenge unique to Indian firms. According to the survey, the main reason companies in India invest in IT sustainability is to maintain their brand reputation (64%), followed closely by ensuring long-term business resilience (61%).

81% of Indian leaders are proactive about climate resilience, while 54% make sustainability investments driven by opportunities. Additionally, 79% of Indian leaders claim to have sophisticated systems for monitoring sustainability objectives using data.

The 2024 sustainability readiness report was carried out independently by morning consult and funded, examined, and released by IBM. Interviews were carried out from April to May 2024 with 2,790 business executives and influencers in 15 sectors and nine countries, including India.
