Arundhati Bhattacharya, the CEO and chairman of Salesforce India, stated that the adoption of cloud solutions in India is being aided by the need for generative AI.

She added that the Indian public sector cloud investments have been hampered by security concerns and a lack of understanding of the solutions. However, generative AI is changing this, as per economic times.

“With the advent of AI and machine learning (ML) use cases, companies started to realise that keeping their systems on-premise only is a constraint as these technologies require huge data sets, storage and compute capacities. It is expensive to manage these requirements onprem,” she said.

According to Bhattacharya, the business is now implementing integrated generative AI capabilities across all offerings. "We are still in the process of educating people about the potential applications of Gen AI and the services we can offer them. As they are launched, the business will have a number of use cases coming live by February and May 2024. "We have cases that have gone live in certain areas," the spokesperson stated.

Bhattacharya continued, saying that cloud adoption, particularly in cross-regulated businesses, has lagged in India.

“I understand that there was a lack of understanding about the nature of security that public cloud providers really provide. So to that extent, the adoption of cloud itself has not been huge in India and specially in the public sector,” she said, adding that these concerns made businesses choose on-premise technology solutions but were now rapidly catching up.

The company's recent strategy in the nation, which includes the expansion of its Bengaluru office that was announced this week, has been largely driven by the rise and demand for digitalization solutions from the Indian market, she continued.
