HP to introduce New Line of Networking Switches

HP announces that it will introduce a new line of networking switches to the market and the product is expected to be available in March 2015.
The new networking equipment would be manufactured by Taiwanese company Accton and the California based cloud computing company, Cumulus Networks will provide Linux-based open source software. This has been the most significant move since October 2014, when HP’s chief executive Meg Whitman announced that the company would be split into two enterprises, reports Quentin Hardy for The New York times.
It was understood that one of the two enterprises would be devoted to consumer-type products and the other would focus on business technology. This networking product is reflective of the organization’s efforts to adapt to the changing scenario. It is necessitated by the demand for systems that are not old-fashioned combination of servers, data storage, networking and software.
The latest move would see HP taking up the role of the reseller and provide online ordering and world wide support to the Accton manufactured product. Accton has been manufacturing networking gear for HP since the last two decades. Telecommunications and financial companies use cloud computing, mobility, social media and big-data resources in their data centers and would naturally be the first target customers for the networking gear.
“We see a shift .The traditional market, the one-vendor market, is transitioning to many suppliers,” says Mark Carroll, Chief Technology Officer, HP’s networking business.
